Paper Personalities

Today I had a bit of a paper people making fest.

When the creative urge arrives I have to go with it.

I love to cut out paper...................................

................and assemble the pieces.

The little paper people develop personalities you know!

I never know what each one is going to turn out like!

I may turn them into greeting cards.

(Hugs) to my lovely readers. x

Simply Shortbread

Take 3 ingredients; butter 4 oz, sugar 2 oz, flour 6 oz. Beat together first two ingredients. Add flour and mix into a smooth paste. Press mixture into a small sandwich pan, mark into 8 pieces and prick all over with a fork. Place into a pre-heated oven at 190C, 375F, Gas mark 5 for 20 minutes.

When cooked place onto a wire rack to cool. Sprinkle with caster sugar. Cut through pieces whilst still warm.

Enjoy with a beverage of your choosing. This recipe is especially welcome on a dark and dismal summer's day!
Edited: If you dare to have a look at a strange spider then pop over to the mutant trees blog in my sidebar!

Baby Blackbird

It is difficult to tell that the little ball of fluff in the photo above is a baby blackbird. Today I could hear a bird calling loudly in the garden but it was nowhere to be seen. I spent ages looking up in the trees but not seeing any sign of a bird. Suddenly beneath the trees I could hear movement in the shrubs below. I saw a ginger cat scoot after something in the undergrowth. 'GIZMO, GIZMO'!!! I shouted at the top of my voice. I heard a bird calling again, shooed Gizmo away with the end of a mop and eventually picked up a little bird with the biggest mouth! It was very frightened.

As I held it in my hands it kept opening its beak wide for food but sadly its mother was nowhere to be seen. I had a sterile syringe from when I kept hens so I filled it with water and squirted it into the little bird's mouth. It still kept its beak wide open so I crushed up some blackberries. I was so fearful that it may choke but I pushed the berries down his throat. I then remembered that I had some meal worms, so I soaked them in water and proceeded to feed the bird with those too.

After much worry, and trying to keep Gizmo at bay, I managed to contact a local wildlife and ambulance service and they agreed to take him in. Hopefully the story will have a happy ending as the bird wasn't injured in any way. He was just too small to fly and fend for himself.

I know some people say that you should leave birds alone and not get involved but its mother was nowhere to be seen and it wouldn't have survived without her.

Life is very topsy turvy at the moment but at least the 'Grumpy Girl' has turned a corner.

Grumpy Girl

I've been a grumpy girl of late, hence the reason for not commenting as much on some of my favourite blogs. 'Grumpy Girl' materialised when I was doodling and I decided to cut her out of paper. I deliberately gave her a frumpy green dress to match my foul mood, so now she has something to be grumpy about!

Anyway, I am nearly over 'the grumps' now. I may even make 'Grumpy Girl' a new dress to match my upbeat mood!

I hope my next post will bring much more positivity. I may even be doing a giveaway in the not too distant future.

Donut Peaches and Cats

I bought these donut peaches from the market last friday.

They were sweet and juicy and had a tiny little stone in the centre.

Who is that trying to get in on the act? Can you see the black and white cat in the top right hand corner of the picture?

He's come over to have a nose around. 'Hello Minky'.

'What's that?'

'Oh it's just Minky.'

'Now where was I?'

Pebbles on a Beach

We are all like pebbles on a beach

Some are well rounded
Some are sharp

Some are flawed
Some perfect to the naked eye

Some are round and feel
Good to hold

Some are weighty
Others light

Some bury their heads in the sand
Some like to stand out
Some get walked on

We are all individuals when apart
But when together the same

We are all like pebbles on a beach
