Bake and Taste Greek

Rose Fern is hosting a Bake and Taste Greek event over at her blog Ferns at the Balcony.  The idea is to choose one of the six recipes she has shared, bake it and share the outcome on your blog.  At the end of April she will share all the results in one post on her blog.

I chose to make Tyropita which is a bread and feta cheese savoury snack.  I added slices of red onion and dried oregano to mine and it looks nothing like the one Rose Fern produced!  I guess that is the beauty of baking, everyone produces different results!  The bread was really tasty although I had to cook it half an hour longer than suggested as it was still slightly doughy to my taste and I only used half the quantity of feta cheese. The feta cheese melted in the mouth and the top was crisp and toasted.  I think it would be nice to share at a picnic.
I urge you to go and have a look at Rose Fern's blog.  She lives in a most beautiful place where she picks oranges for breakfast!  Her father owns an olive grove and I was fortunate enough to win a bottle of the oil produced there a couple of months ago. She also included a fresh olive branch which I thought was a lovely touch.  Why not 'go Greek' this month?

  2. Mmm.. looks very tasty, Simone. I've just been to look at the recipe and it looks quite an easy thing to make - I think like you'd I put less feta cheese in as I find it quite salty and perhaps rosemary and olives on the top. Hope you enjoyed eating it:)

    2. Thank you Simone, first for your lovely posting. You're such a kind and generous person...I'm really touched by all the nice things you wrote (once again) about me and my blog!Second, thank you for entrying the event. I'm so glad you added your own twist to tyropita!!!!!!A wonderful idea to add onions and oregano! The good thing about it is that it's a rather versitile recipe.I wish I had a bite to taste myself ,too!
Now I must get myself prepared, because seeing my mum's and grandma's recipes being tasted all over the world by wonderful people I have never met, will certainly get me emotional...
