Project for 2017 and my Word for the Year

When I choose a word for the year to live by I usually make a rash decision as the new year looms close as I don't want to be without a word but at the same time can't think of an appropriate word!  Unusually, for a few weeks now I have known what my word for 2017 is going to be.  The word popped into my head as I was contemplating all the new things I have learned in recent years.  I am still going to be learning new things but thought it was about time that I consolidated all the information from previous experiences together.  Therefore my word for 2017 is;

Consolidate:

1.Combine a number of things into a single more effective or coherent whole.

2. Make something physically stronger or more solid.

I am going to consolidate my knowledge and also my physical environment.  For too long I have been all over the place; chaotic and disorganised.  This really goes against my natural state as I prefer the flow of beauty and order.  Hopefully by bringing things together I will feel more in control of myself and my surroundings.

My project for 2017 is to do/make art every day.  I will consolidate drawing, painting, collage etc. with all the various art materials I have accumulated over the years.  By the end of 2017 I will have a body of works and a years worth of art!  I have felt compelled to do this ever since doing Anne's course on the Skillshare website called "Jump Start a Daily Art Practice".  Anne uses a variety of materials to produce her art on the course and gives word prompts as an idea of what to create.  This art is not meant to be 'perfect' and can take as little as 5 minutes to do a quick sketch.  The whole point of the exercise is to just do it!  I won't show all my daily art practice on here but will show some of my work from time to time.

Wishing all that read this blog good health, good happiness and good fortune for 2017.  I am going to try to stay out of the quagmire of doom and gloom that was evident in the media last year and make this a year for focusing on all the good things in our lives and in the World.

Happy New Year!

  2. Good for you, making things is the way to beat the blues and gives you an end product. I'm hoping to do more sewing this year and less scrabble, fingers crossed.

  4. Good luck Simone - hope you manage to keep to your word. My watchword/s for 2107 is Carpe Diem which gives me plenty of room for manoeuvre and am hoping I can stick with it and not waste any more precious time on procrastination. Love your photo. Best wishes for 2017.
