Arachnaphobes Look Away Now

I saw this spider on the shed door.  Its body had a reddish metallic sheen.  Any idea what it is?  I have spent ages trying to identify it on line to no avail.  It was about an inch big.

*I believe I have identified it.  I think it is a garden spider or 'cross' spider on account of the white cross shaped marks on its back and the oak leaf shapes on its side as is shown on the UK Safari website.  Info  here.

  1. No idea what it is but it is certainly beautiful as long as it stays on the shed door and doesn't come indoors! Isn't Nature wonderful?

  2. Glad you were able to identify the spider. It's an unusual colour. We've had one or two big ones indoors recently, we just catch them in a bug pot and put them outside as far away from the house as we can:)

    1. I don't mind indoor spiders unless they are in the bedroom! I normally put a glass over them and paper underneath to catch them before putting them at the end of the front garden!
