Making Paper Bows

I checked my diary and apart from one torrential but short lived downpour of rain, the last six weeks have been hot, hot, hot, humid, oppressive and a complete hell hole!  I wish I could be one of those laid back characters who go with the flow and embrace the heat, but when your house feels like a furnace and the fans just blow hot air I feel as though I am going to combust.  It has been difficult to keep my bad mood in check and I am best left alone.

When I need to go to the shops I make sure to get out early and then get back into the house.  I have kept the curtains drawn (in the rooms where we have them) and tried to keep still as movement makes me feel nauseous and even hotter. Happily, I hear that the heatwave is going to break today.  I know that with the rain the humidity will increase but I can tolerate that one more night if we are rewarded with fresher air tomorrow.

I can't concentrate in the heat as my brain feels as though it is being cooked!  I lack productivity and get frustrated at wasting my time.  Yesterday and today, for fear of wasting any more time, I sat quietly at the dining room table and made some simple paper bows.  Satisfying and constructive to do I believe it was the catalyst I needed to get me out of a funk.

  1. Oh, lovely bows, I love them. Have you covered the buttons with paper?
+I'm with you all the way on the heat. We have one back bedroom that is the coolest in the house and when it all gets too much we flop out on the two single beds and wait to recover. I hate it so much. Next year I think we will have to invest in some kind of air conditioner ( or die) lol
Also like you, my needlework has taken a dip, I neither have the energy or inclination.

    1. Hi Briony! We don't have one cool room in the house! I also think that we may have to invest in air conditioning if this heat continues in the future. The 'buttons' are just paper made with a hand held punch that embosses and die cuts button shapes! I hope that you are able to get back to your needlework soon! x

  2. I too agree about the heat. I feel as if I've wasted so much time unable to do anything in the heat. Like you it's up early and out for a walk or shopping, home and one job in the house or garden then nothing for the rest of the day. I hope it cools down soon. Your paper bows are very pretty:)

    1. Hi Rosie. I think the weather is about to change although I am still boiling hot in the room where I am typing this. I am looking forward to the fresher day tomorrow and may even get some ironing done! :)

    1. Vivienne I would love 24C, I just hate it when it is above 30C and nowhere to hide!!! I know you love the heat and will happily wish it your way! On a serious note, it is beyond just hot. The garden looks dreadful. All the grass is brown and there are no flowers. Still have slugs and snails though! How did that happen?!!! x

  5. Cute little bows Simone - do you use them when wrapping gifts?
Our house stays fairly cool if we leave the windows open and the blinds down. We have to create a through breeze at night by leaving all the bedroom windows open but I have been so tired at night lately I have managed to sleep quite well!
Hope you have some cool air soon - it is cooler here in Scotland with the odd shower.

    1. Hi Vivian! I haven't made the bows before but I have put double sided sticky pads on the back so they can be used as embellishments for gift giving or adding as a card topper. There is no breeze here whatsoever at the moment. It is stifling!

  6. Hope things are better now, Simone. I'm having a lovely time catching up here at LindenGrove, so happy to spend time with you. Love what you've been up to.

  8. Hello Simone!
I love these sweet bows and you've made them extra lovely with beautiful papers.
The heat really flattens me, too, and more so as I get older. I will confess that, when we moved to our current home, my first priority was central air conditioning. So you can call me lucky, although the house was older and in need of renovation, the air is cool!
Why not come over for tea sometime, dear friend? I would love that! xx

  10. Do you think Judy would mind if I went with you?
I too don't function well in the heat....I moan a lot! But thankfully it seems to be better this week..... xxx

  11. Always good to do something creative. Finding something to get absorbed in and concentrate the mind. And if the end result is something pretty then that's a bonus.
Things are a lot cooler now aren't they.
I hope you are enjoying the turn in the weather and your cold has now gone too.
