A lot of hand made went into this book; from the waxed covers and hand stitching....
..... to the tea dyed, baked and torn pages.
It's my first book so I experimented with just a few pages (I need to tea dye more!) and the book folds flat. I would really like it to be jam packed with pages - a bumper volume!
I love the look and the feel of the pages.
Here's a close up of the front cover. It has a slight smell of beeswax. I am happy with the outcome but it took a lot of trial and error to get thus far!
an amazing first attempt. your photos do it proud. what I'd give to sniff the waxy memory and feel it in my own hands. lovely, Simone.
ReplyDeleteI've been tea dyeing more paper today to make another book! :)
DeleteLooks great Simone! If I made one like that I would not be able to write in it for fear of spoiling it!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jane! Next time I might stamp on a few of the pages so they aren't just blank and then I will feel OK to write on them!
DeleteGood idea. I must remember that!

ReplyDeleteA thing of beauty made by your own hands, how proud you must be of your practical creation.

Thanks Lisa - although there is always room for improvement! x
DeleteIt's lovely Simone, I hope you will enjoy writing in it:)
ReplyDeleteThank you Rosie. I will probably never use it! x
DeleteYour first attempt is brilliant Simone - it actually looks like you have been making them for ages. I love artists books and enjoy going to see the Artist Book Fair each year in Manchester. I bet it feels wonderful to handle so much nicer than machine made notebooks.
ReplyDeleteYou must write some of your poetry in it to keep. x
I didn't think of using it to write my poetry into. What a great idea! Thank you! x
DeleteIt is so beautiful Simone ... I love the torn papers, just perfect!
ReplyDeleteThank you Vivienne! I enjoyed making it and the various processes involved. x
DeleteWhat a lovely project.
