Organising Paper Craft Scraps

Although I made a start on organising my craft supplies earlier in the year, I came to a standstill and never finished the job.  The task was so daunting that I put it to the back of my mind.  In the bedroom there is a huge laundry bag full of over spill from the craft room blocking one of the fitted wardrobes.  Today I decided to sort out that bag once and for all!

I used Ziploc bags to categorise my card and paper scraps into colour families.

This will make it so much easier to see what I have before buying any more paper stock.

I have grouped them as blue, purple, pink, red, green, yellow, orange, brown, neutral, black and metallic.  Later on I can sub divide them further but feel that is a good start.

Thank you for the messages and suggestions yesterday.  In the evening I watched Last Night at the Proms on the t.v rather than the usual X-factor or Strictly Come Dancing.  I found the music moving and rousing and it lifted my low mood.  I slept well ( no nightmares for once) and woke up feeling in a good frame of mind.  Also, I have found a project that I can't wait to start but will leave that to talk about another time.  Sorting and having a tidy up really does bring me clarity of thought.

Sorry the photos are unclear today.  Probably forgot to use macro on the camera!

  1. Thank you for the brilliant idea of using the paint sample strips in with your paper scraps to help identify the sets you've put together. Happy you're feeling in a lighter frame of mind. It's finally sunny here and cooler. Autumn has arrived and that's helped me to feel lighter. Have a good week, friend.

    1. I didn't even think about the paint strips to identify the colours! They were just mixed in with my paper scraps. I feel so much better now that I have sorted out the different colours. I have a long way to go still though, as I have boxes and boxes of unsorted scraps everywhere! :0

    2. I think I'll use this organizing technique with my fabric scraps. I could include more than one paint strip, say yellows and oranges? to help me know just what bits of treasure are included in each box. Sometimes you need just one special little piece.......

    1. Hi Ethel! Yes, I know I am not alone and hope that by saying how I feel may help others who feel the same way. Not heard about 'spun cotton' before - will have to look it up! x

  3. What is it they say ... 'tidy house, tidy mind'? It seems to have worked for you and maybe some more classical music would be good too!

  4. Hi Simone - you do sound a bit brighter today. That is a brilliant way to sort your scraps. I have put my sewing projects into those ziploc bags. Actually it would be better if I just got on and finished the projects then I wouldn't need to store them! It really sounds like you are suffering a bit from overwhelm of the crafting bits and pieces - I used to be like that with fabric then I decided in the free time that I had I would never use it all and got rid of 80% of it - it was hard but I actually felt so much better afterwards as it was stifling any creativity I had (and that is not much at times!)
Looking forward to hearing more of your progress in the coming posts. x Viv
