I was notified this week that I have been selected to receive two free trees from the Woodland Trust as part of the Trees for Londoners giveaway courtesy of the Mayor of London and the players of people's postcode lottery.
It is thrilling to have been chosen but what are the trees and where do I plant them? I have contacted the Woodland Trust and they have told me that the trees are a Rowan and a Wild Cherry - how nice is that? I will have to read up on them before their arrival so that I pick out a suitable place to plant them.
The photo above is of the lemon trees that I have been growing from their pips since August. They are in a south facing window and doing very well. I just hope I will be able to nurture the new trees accordingly!
Great idea to plant trees. I'm plant mad and forever taking cuttings and dividing perennials.
ReplyDeleteI'm really good with starting things off - but not so good at maintaining them! :)
DeleteOooh! your lemon is coming along splendidly. My lemon babies are a bit over a year old now and about 18 inches tall. I keep them in a south facing window also. One of my cats has a desire to nibble on a leaf from time to time. They do smell good when they're bruised! So exciting to see how yours are doing! Congratulations on being chosen for the free trees. Ask Karen at Sewandsowlife about the Rowan as they are one of her favorites. A wild cherry too? sigh.
ReplyDeleteI hope my lemon plants do as well as yours Sharon! I can't wait to see how mine progress. I've never thought much about Rowan trees before but have since found out that they can live to 200 years old so they will continue to thrive long after I have gone. :)
DeleteHow wonderful, Simone and such lovely trees, I'm sure they will both look wonderful in your garden and bring joy for many years. Glad your lemon trees are doing well too:)
ReplyDeleteI don't suppose they will be very big to start with Rosie but am still excited to see them grow and chart their progress. My lemon tree success is a complete surprise to me - I never expected they would come to anything :)
DeleteThat is such a brilliant gift Simone ... lucky you!!!
ReplyDeleteI was surprised to receive an email to say that I was one of the lucky ones although I think they had quite a few thousand to give away! Once they have been planted I will give occasional updates on how they are doing. The thought of cherry in blossom is so uplifting! :)
DeleteHi Simone - lucky you - such a wonderful gift. x
