Snakes Head Fritillaries

I have three of these plants in my garden.  When the petals are closed they resemble a snakes head.

It fascinates me that nature can produce such a perfect checkerboard design.

They are short lived but a welcome surprise when there is not much else in bloom in the garden.

  1. Hi Simone and belated Happy Birthday - sorry I missed your post - I am just catching up. I had to smile at the last one - wouldn't we all like to emerge from this ordeal as a butterfly - I suspect many lives will change.
I always love the photos of your Fritillaries like you they fascinate me.

    1. Hi Vivien! I hope your back is better now. My birthday was a non-event like many other people's! I think some good will come out of all this including increased gratitude for all that we have - especially our freedoms in normal life. x

  2. Love Fritillaries. I read somewhere once they were planted near cottage doors to keep vermin away because they do look like snake heads - I wonder if it worked.......

  4. The fritillaries are lovely, the pattern on them always intrigues me. Thank you for your kind comment on my post this morning. I have anwered you query re oven temperature over there but in case you don't see it - 180c on the recipe but I did ours ten degrees less as our oven overheats quickly and can burn things. I hope you enjoy the rhubarb:)

  6. When I see little gems like this I have to smile at the imagination and humor of the creator. And I'm reminded of the strength and majesty that is creation. Thank you, Simone.
