Personalities and Self Discovery

As I continue my soul searching quest to find out who I am, what makes me tick and where I am going, I have been studying personality types based on the works of Carl Jung and Isabel Briggs Myers.

There are 16 distinct personality types in the currently most widely-accepted Personality Type model. After much consideration I seem to fit the INFP personality best of all.  The INFP personalities are the Idealists.  Looking further into this to see what careers are suggested for INFP personality types I see that 'Writer' is at the top of the list.  It seems quite far fetched to me that I could actually make a career out of being a writer as I didn't even reach GCSE standard for English at school!  It has given me a goal to work towards though.  I can see myself as a writer.  I will be sitting in my study looking through the window to the hills in the distance, I will have a steaming mug of coffee by my side and a plate of home made biscuits to feed the mind and the belly. With my cat purring contentedly on my lap as I write............  the situation is almost ideal.

  1. Passing exams has got nothing to do with it - I am sure you could be a writer and wish you all the best in your new venture.

  2. You don't need exams or any great education you just need to write from your heart and I know you can do that! You do it when you write your posts. Just give it a go, write what you feel and what you know! Good luck:)

  3. Hi Simone

Problem with those exam grades is that they are based on a section of our life that we have long since past and outgrown; they don't take into account that as the years unfold, we each grow even more individual and marvellous as we absorb more about ourselves and the world we live in. Forget your school grades, and listen to your heart and your intuition - if you want to be a writer there is one surefire way to become one: start writing.

Sending love for your new creative journey

  5. Hi Simone,
You have so much more experience of life now than when you were at school so that has got to be good for writing and you certainly paint a really good picture of your life as a writer!
I have never looked into my personality type, I dread to think what it is but it would definately be interesting to find out.

  7. Hello Simone,
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment about my nan, I loved hearing your memory of your own nan - a peach, how lovely. I love your peony in your last post. Our peony bush at the cottage is full of buds for the first time, I'm really hoping they may open this weekend.

  10. If you can dream it and pursue it, it will come true, though maybe not as you first see it in your mind's eye! I am a "freelance writer" in that I write a weekly article for iVillage UK and have done since last September... but I don't get paid for it. One day I just thought I would write to the editor on the offchance that I might write an article or two for them, and it spread from there. Although I would love to make some money from it, I still consider it a "job" because it is a running contract, even though voluntary. So I am "freelance" just not quite making money from it yet ;)

This all happened just because I took a chance and had a go. I tried writing to other sites and magazines to no avail, but found my match at iVillage. Just keep writing here, and looking at places you'd like to write for, and take a leap and have a go... you never know what might happen xx
