Second Blog Birthday!

This blog was 2 years old on 1st March! When I started blogging I thought it would be a bit of a fad and over with within a couple of months. I never imagined that I would still be blogging 2 years later.

I started out about the same time as Lucy from Attic 24 who is known for her love of crochet. Inspired by her crochet jar jackets, I decided to make some for a giveaway.

They are designed to fit a Bonne Maman jam jar quite perfectly.

If you would like to be in with a chance of winning a totally useless but none-the-less pretty jam jar cover, then please let me know how you discovered this particular blog. Did you find me after I left you a comment on your blog? or by a random search? or by a comment I left on another persons blog? etc.

All are welcome to enter as I will send abroad too. If you left a comment on my previous post I will put you in the lucky hat twice! I will announce the winners in about a weeks time. Good luck and I hope you continue to read my blog over the coming years!

A Fidgety Kind of Day

I have been having a very fidgety kind of day so far today. I have faffed around and achieved nothing apart from blogging about it! I can't quite pinpoint why I feel so restless but the fact that I am surrounded by chaos may have something to do with it. The bookshelves above are an indication of how a lot of the nooks and crannies in my house look at the moment. I have lack of storage and lack of organisational skills. Despite having nowhere to put my books I just still keep on buying them.
This used to be a linen cupboard but crafting supplies seemed to take over and the 'linen' became a pile on my bedroom floor. The pile has now been joined with several other piles of homeless items.

Despite the chaos around me I divert my attention to other things such as the books above which I have had for ages and not yet got around to reading.

The books above are my new books that I bought over the last few weeks. I devour a new book within hours and am then looking for the next thing to do. I enjoy receiving new books immensely but am often disappointed with the content. There is never enough to keep me absorbed for long enough. Saying that I do go back to them over and over again.

I am nearly at the end of this blanket. I usually work on it during the evenings when the t.v or radio is on so I don't feel like I am just wasting time. This blanket gave me fidgety fingers! I have the dreaded task of sewing all the little ends in once I have completed a few more rows, unless I find something else to become preoccupied with such as sorting out my dilapidated hovel!!!

Project Updates

I started this blanket on February 13th and have been working on it during the evenings on and off. It is getting quite weighty now and I really want to hurry up and finish it as I have so many more projects that I want to start.

When I started to make this blanket I had no real purpose for it other than to create it for creations sake! I have a home full of incomplete projects so I do want to see this one through to completion.

Now on to the pond. The hole that I dug has now been filled in! After digging it I realised that the pond shelves were not quite wide enough, so I dug some more. The 'small nature pond' ending up getting bigger and bigger. I hadn't taken into consideration that I had been digging on a slope or what kind of edging I was going to use to hold down the liner, the amount of people traffic that would be passing by the pond etc etc. So I have learned a valuable lesson. In the future I will plan ahead and prepare before getting stuck in! I will still have a pond but at a different spot in the garden. For now I have a blanket to be completed before the summer sets in and many more creative projects in the 'planning' stage.

Creating Holes

I have been purposefully creating holes all week. Creating holes between clusters of trebles and creating a rather large hole in the garden. More to be revealed further down the post!

During a brief sunny spell about a week ago I decided to cut back some rather overgrown shrubs. Gizmo was happy to supervise whilst I wielded the secateurs.

The next project on 'my list' was to clear an overgrown patch of the garden that had once been a rockery housing different alpine plants. It had also been a pumpkin patch and a very pretty flowerbed at one stage. It had been in this neglected form for a while now - time to take drastic action!

On Friday my son helped me to remove the rocks that were embedded in the rockery, dig out the grass and make the area usable again. It took about 3 hours to get to this stage and filled up four huge bags of grassy clumps.

I was happy to have my helper with me and he was happy to look for treasure. After a 'back breaking' afternoon we decided to call it a day. The next day I got down to the real business of why I wanted the area cleared.

I want to create a wildlife pond.

After another three hours the pond is beginning to take shape. I need to make the shelf wider and deeper and I need to fill in a bit at the bottom. I did get carried away.

Here is the 'pond' from another angle. I still need to level it all out and bank it up on one side and then I will make use of my rockery rocks again as a hiding place for frogs, toads etc. (Sorry Hen - I think it is you that is not too fond of froggy things)! When the pond is levelled off I will add a layer of soft sand and a pond liner and maybe an old blanket sandwiched between. I then need to decide how I am going to finish of the pond edges and what plants to put in. I am really looking forward to seeing how the pond progresses over the years and I will keep you posted here.

Back to creating more holes..............................!!!

A Change of Heart..........and Crochet!

It has been a beautiful day here today. The sun has been dodging in and out from behind the clouds and it has been pleasantly mild. I managed to get quite a bit of cutting back done in the garden and generally tidying up. Now on to other matters. Thank you so much for all the supportive comments that you left for me on my last post. How could I ever think of leaving such a wonderful community of people. The truth is I couldn't leave you and Linden Grove is here to stay.
During my brief 'holiday' I have been buying wool. Lots of wool to make a blanket.

Now I really did want to use Rowan or Debbie Bliss wool but as I haven't crocheted for some years and not being sure how it would all turn out, I couldn't justify the expense. Instead I opted for some very soft Sirdar DK wool (well acrylic and nylon combo to be precise) at £2.50 for a 50g ball and some whopping 100g balls of DK wool at £1.00 each at THE POUND SHOP!!! I did have to rummage about a bit as not all the colours were to my taste but I did manage to get a few to my liking.

I started this blanket on Friday evening. I soon got into the swing of it again. Thanks to Lucy at Attic 24 I have rekindled my love of crochet. Lucy is the queen of crochet and her blog is full of lovely things she has crocheted and there are tutorials in the side bar too.

I am liking the hot pink next to the soft green. I wonder what colour I should choose next?

All will be revealed in time........................!!!
