Wistful

I am feeling wistful today.  It seems that summer has bypassed me once again.  I didn't get to go strawberry picking, visit a beach or even lick an ice cream.  My earlier intentions for a garden 'full of flowers' didn't materialise and most of the plants in the garden have now gone to seed.  Next year I won't 'wait' for summer.  I will just make the most of each sunny day as and when it comes.

My voluntary work keeps me close to nature and I will be able to witness the changing seasons around me.  I will give you a clue as to what my voluntary work involves : my favourite work of fiction, ever, is 'The Grapes of Wrath'.  Any ideas?

  1. You've got to grab those sunny days because some years they don't come very often. July and April have been good for us but May and June were awful. I wonder what August holds.

  3. July has rushed by so quickly this year! When I saw your duck photo I wondered if you were volunteering at a park or nature reserve, now, like Toffeeapple, I wonder if it is a vineyard? Keeping close to nature and witnessing the changing seasons sounds wonderful:)

  4. Summer's not over yet Simone, August may be beautiful and September is more often than not lovely.
I've never read the Grapes of Wrath, I do know however that there are peaches and cotton involved though!! But peaches and cotton in the British climate!

  5. Don't give up on Summer yet .... there will still be lovely days. But I agree that you should just make the best of each nice day when it comes!
I haven't got a clue what you're up to. Vineyard? Wine tasting? You're keeping us all guessing!

  7. Well get to the beach and have your ice cream , we did that today , it's never too late . My flower seeds that I planted months ago are still only a few inches tall so not much chance of them flowering now but hey green leaves is better than bare soil..

  10. There is still a whole month of summer to go yet, and then a few weeks of late summer too - so don't despair!! Maybe you could have an icecream this week?? I love your seed head picture. My garden is not looking as flowery as I'd hoped, but now I'm finding I'm not alone!

  12. We haven't even as much dipped a toe in the water this year, even with the sea on our doorstep. Not so much not having a Summer, but rarely finding the time to spend together. No good asking me about The Grapes of Wrath, as I very rarely ever get around to reading a book! How about voluntarily crushing grapes - that sounds like a good job to have! x

  13. Theres still 5 or 6 weeks of summer left Simone, maybe even more if we have an Indian summer!
Most pick your own farms go on with strawberries and raspberries for quite a few more weeks yet too.
So make the most of the summer thats stll to come, theres still plenty of time for strawberries and the beach!
