Pushing Boundaries

I am not really one for pushing boundaries.  I usually stick with what I feel comfortable with.  This self imposed restriction has prevented me growing in so many areas in my life.  I am getting better though, for example; instead of stitching on aida I decided to stitch onto linen which is a challenge in itself when my eyesight is failing. Hardly pushing boundaries I know but I am expanding my range of skills.

I have set myself a challenge of making some tactile key rings with some of my favourite sentiments stitched on to the linen.  Whilst out walking the other day the words 'live life with purpose' came into my head.  They will be the words on my first keyring.  I intend to live my life with purpose, making the most of every day and learning and growing with each new experience.

  2. I'm with you on being a bit cautious, I tend to make what I know and when I see other makes on blogs I think I really must be a bit more free with my thinking but old habits die hard don't they?
Can't wait to see the first key ring.

  4. I like your lettering. I haven't stitched anything for ages. I used to do lots of cross stitch in the past. I think your motto sums up how to live our lives!

  5. Looks lovely and I love the linen colour. Oh I know what you mean when you hold yourself back, I find my inner shy person gets the better of me quite often (my friends wouldn't believe I am shy but it is hidden in there somewhere and pops out when I don't need it ggrrr). x

  10. So neat, and I like your font design. I don't think my eyes would enjoy stitching on linen but I do like the effect, much nicer than aida.

  13. I like your motto for your first key ring. It is good to push boundaries, I've always been quite a shy, hesitant person person and tend to stick to what I'm comfortable with so know how hard it is to try new things:)

  14. Hello Simone,
I have been catching up, well I'd never have thought of a vineyard for your voluntary work, we don't have many around these parts so it never entered my head! But how fantastic, so interesting and with all the other animals and wildlife around, I can't think of anything better!
Your lettering looks brilliant, I love the linen fabric too but it looks much more difficult and quite a challenge to me!x

  15. There's definitely something in the air that's making people cross-stitch at the moment! Personally I find linen more flexible than aida, especially when doing half stitches. Looking forward to seeing your key-rings.

  16. How are you finding stitching on linen?? I think I've got the hang of it now although rough stitches keep appearing thanks for the tip of gold needles - they do make a difference xx

  17. How wonderful! I've looked at stitching on linen too but shied away from it, so you're braver than me!

I recently ventured beyond my boundaries too and actually created my very own baby beanie pattern for crochet. It's only taken me 5 years since teaching myself the basics to even attempt something beyond the simple patterns and then to suddenly go from that to creating my own is mindblowing. I blame ravelry!

I can't wait to see what wonderful items you come up with. Your creativity is so great, I often marvel over the great ideas you have!
