To Autumn

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;
To bend with apples the moss'd cottage-trees,
And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;
To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells
With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,
And still more, later flowers for the bees,
Until they think warm days will never cease,
For Summer has o'er-brimm'd their clammy cells.

John Keats

  1. so lovely. but i'm not ready for the chill in the air, when the windows are better open only part-way at night instead of flung all the open.

  3. I love the Keats poem - the signs of autumn are in the air - apples in orchards, yellowing trees, darker evenings and leaves blowing about in the breeze - I'm going to miss the summer:)

  4. We've had the early morning mists and the fruitfulness but I do so hope we might just have a wee while longer summer before we have to accept that winter is on its way!

  5. Lovely poem although I'm not ready for Autumn yet. There was an Autumnal nip in the air last night so I guess it's on the way. x

  7. I've always loved this poem, and have even stitched some of the words into samplers occasionally. It really does feel like autumn here now, though we might still have some indian summer days, the season is definitely on the turn.
    Have a good week,Simone.

  10. Hi Simone,
    I love this poem too, it always reminds me of the wonderful teacher who taught us the poem at school as well as my favourite season.
    I wish summer had been better but can't wait for all that autumn has to offer. Love the apple photo, it's made my mouth water, I think I'll just go to the fruit bowl now! x
