Stark

Today the council came and pruned the Linden tree that stands on the pavement outside my house.  It is a necessary job that is carried out on a two year cycle.  Now the tree can concentrate on its root energy and build up its resources for the following year.

The picture above looks surreal to me.  I took it in natural daylight without any photographic tricks (not that I know how to do photographic tricks!)  I think the phone wires give additional interest to the composition!

November has been a depressing month thus far.  I seem to be wishing my life away at the moment thinking that each day will be better than the one here right now.  I am trying very hard to put a positive spin on each day for it is said 'carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero' seize the day, trust as little as possible in tomorrow.

  1. November is my least favourite month of the year and it has so far pretty much lived up to it's dull, grey dismal image. Try to get out as much as you can Simone, as yesterday afternoon was quite nice I spent it in the garden and it did me the world of good. Fresh air really does help. I always focus on the winter solstice as I think changes for the good happen then, only 31 days until then.
    Hope you feel better soon,
    Vivienne x

  2. Oh no, please Simone stay positive!
November has been a challeging month for you and your family, but it's almost over and I hope your husband is on the mend too.
Bring out from the attic your festive mood and enjoy the run up to the holidays.

  3. It's the New Year that does it for me. The days are lengthening again, the snowdrops won't be long. I'll be ordering seeds to sow in the spring... it's not long till that day either. We may get some bad weather in Jan and Feb, but it still feels that spring is only just around the corner. Jx

  4. Dear Simone,

I was so happy when I saw your comment on my post especially as I have been thinking about you recently and I was on the point of leaving your message. I am so, so sorry to read about your trials and low moral (although I am completely impressed by the latin). I am keeping you in my thoughts and, remember, I totally understand about the dentist treatment (I've just caught up with your latest posts). I have my next appointment mid December and I cannot help wondering how necessary this expensive treatment is.

As Vivienne wrote above it is good to get out. Give yourself a little treat or two every day. Your so deserve it, Simone. Take heart: in a month the Solstice will be with us.

  5. Hello, Simone - I had never heard the second part of that Latin quote before now, and I can't say I like it that much. I love the idea of "seizing the day" (as you saw on my blog today - great minds!) but I also like to look toward tomorrow! There is always something to look forward to! And you never know what might pop up to surprise you!
That photo is definitely special - as you say, surrealistic!
I hope the rest of the month is better for you - you have definitely had your share of difficulties lately. I'm imagining something wonderful happening to you in the near future!
Thank you for your comment on my blog today! xx

  6. Hi Simone
I am trying to catch up with everyone's news as I have missed a few posts with having my mum to stay last weekend so quickly after my visit to her two weeks before! Sorry to hear you are not enjoying November - I think the trick must be to get out and about as November has gone so quickly for me visiting new places as well as old haunts and looking at all the beautiful Christmas items for sale in the shops (and wondering how many things I can make myself). I intend to put some time aside to look in your shop (I think the new name is a good idea) - I would love to be able to sell things I have made - if I ever find enough time to make them in the first place!!
Good luck at the dentist - not my favourite place either - my friend gave me a tip recently to keep calm by concentrating on relaxing your hands. I will try anything once! :)

  7. That's a wonderful photo, Simone! November is the worst month for low spirits which, like you, I've been feeling this week. Today has been such a wet dismal day but just as I'm typing this comment a little ray of sunshine has peaked through the grey - hope it does for you too:)
