It Never Rains But it Pours

Isn't it strange how luck, good or bad, seems to come in a run of events.  Despite trying to remain upbeat this year (and I am really trying) things have not really been that great.

To update you with Gizmo, he has two nasty infected abscess's caused by a cat bite in the fight he had two weeks ago.  These bites were not discovered by the vet when he was initially checked over.  During the last couple of days I noticed that Gizmo was giving off a really nasty smell and looked unkempt around his lower neck area and on the back of his neck.  This morning I attempted to put him in the bath and gently wash those areas that had become matted.  He did not let me do this willingly and I was shocked when I discovered why.  As his fur parted under his neck I noticed a gaping wound.

To cut a long and laborious story short, he has to go under general anaesthetic and the operation is tricky because the wound is near a jugular vein.

I had to sit down when the vet estimated that the bill will be around £700.  It is at times like this that I wish I'd had him insured.

That's awful - that this wasn't discovered at the time and the vet ought to be responsible at least in part for the cost. Do hope that Gizmo makes a full recovery.

Fingers crossed!

Did you pay for the last examination? If so demand a refund.

Oh no poor Gizmo and poor you too! No wonder it was taking time for him to get back to normal, I really think the vet should have noticed that at the time!
I have everything crossed for poor Gizmo!

Sorry Simone, I have been a bad blogger and not read your blog for a while. Sorry to hear about Gizmo and your huge vet bill. I agree with others and the vet should of spotted the bites when he was checked over first time. Still I do hope it gets sorted and Gizmo gets well soon. Sending hugs to you both xxxxx

Oh, poor Gizmo - keeping my fingers crossed that all will be well. The vet should have given him a better check over than he/she did. I'd be very upset with them about thatxx

I join everyone else in wishing you all the best with Gizmo. Such a shame and that is a shocking amount of money - no wonder you had to sit down! Hope it all works out. Sending you hugs. xx

Oh no! Poor Gizmo! My Mum's cat is always getting into the same sort of scraps but our vets are very good and always give him an antibiotic jab after he's come out worse in a fight. Touch wood that hasn't happened for a while - perhaps he's getting older and wiser. I do hope your vets are sympathetic and let you pay in installments (I've faced some huge bills over the years too!)- especially as they missed that wound!

I won't even begin to tell you what I think of your vet. But know that all your readers are pulling for Gizmo to make a full recovery. Dovey and Mya send their love, as do I.
