I have been watching the BBC2 coverage of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show this week. I have come to the conclusion that my garden would not stand up to the rigorous scrutiny of the judges. The photo of my 'moon garden' above was taken at 9.00pm last night. Since deciding on wanting this part of the garden to be a place to contemplate in the evening - I have done nothing with it! I have let nature take its course here and think the foliage and plants provide a good naturalistic background on which I can base further planting. I am thinking of using plants such as white astrantia, ammi magus? and aqualegia as used in Vital Earth: The Night Sky Garden that won a silver-gilt award. I really think they deserved a gold medal.
Most of the gold medal gardens left me unmoved. Hard lines, more building work than planting and far too formal for my taste. Who know what the judges look for?
