Beautiful Bloom

I took this picture of a lone Peony in my garden before its beauty was blighted by the rain. The front of the Peony was tightly packed petals, so dense that the middle of the flower was unseen.

The back of the flower had more interest to me with the raspberry ripple effect on the base of the petals. The heads of these flowers are so heavy that the stem falls over if unsupported.

Looking through some quotes I found one that so aptly fitted my feelings towards this particular bloom. The following quote is by Auguste Rodin.

'The artist is the confidant of nature, flowers carry on dialogues with him through the graceful bending of their stems and the harmoniously tinted nuances of their blossoms. Every flower has a cordial word which nature directs towards him.'

  1. peonys are such lovely flowers, i remember once when i was living in a student flat that the woman from next door came into our garden and dug ours up and planted it in her garden! Needless to say it didnt stay in her garden for long. :-)

  2. I would love to grow some peonies in our garden but there isn't a square inch spare at the moment ..
I had a lovely collection in my last garden but I have read that they don't like to be moved so I left them behind... sigh!

  3. I adore peonies, they are my favourite flowers. Mine too always get battered by the wind and rain.

  5. First of all, Gizmo as a kitten, how cute does that little cuddly ball of fluff look? You are right, the quote is perfect to go alongside your lone peony. It is lovely. I only had one flower on my three plants this year, let's hope for more next? x

  7. What a wonderful quote and such a beautiful peony. I spent a lot of time this weekend feeling very sorry for the flowers in my garden watching them being battered in the wind and rain!

  8. I had a beautiful peoney garden in my last house...all on its own in a little shady area. I have no peonies in this garden sadly, I think they smell and look so lovely.
