Strange Sightings

I apologise in advance for these very uninspiring images.

I had to record what I saw as a visual diary.

Saturday 8th August 2009 at around 10.00pm. Three orange lights/globes appeared in the sky in my back garden. By the time I got my camera only one was left. They made no noise. They were not planes. They were below cloud level. They moved purposefully and were not just floating. They all went off in different directions. They moved at about the speed of a small aircraft.

Have you ever seen anything like this? Have you an idea what they might be? If you click on the above photo you will also see two faint moon like shapes either side of the light.

It was a fascinating and yet eerie sight. It was dead quiet.

On a lighter note, another strange sighting was to see my Hibiscus in bloom. Not flowers 'the size of dinner plates' as promised by a TV gardening guru but quite pleasing none-the-less.

  1. Who knows?
On the lighter note, love the Hibiscus, they remind me of holidays in warmer climates, very dramatic for an English Country Garden.

  2. Simone that would have been me!
We all went camping on Friday for the weekend, just to give my dad a little break.
It was more like a festival where we camped. We bought a few Chinese lanterns which were fantastic, they were huge white tissue paper things, that you light a candle in and the heat takes the lantern up up and away!
I could not believe how high and how far they travel,
Of course the ones you saw may not have been the exact ones that we sent up...but it is funny that you spoted some of the very night we had ours!

  4. We have a place nearby that does
weddings, they seem to be the in thing at the moment as one night we
had what seemed like hundreds go by.
    Spooky but very pretty.

  10. I was about to mention Chinese Lanterns. We saw some like this camping a couple of months ago. They moved in the way you describe. Very interesting to watch them though.

  11. Hello Simone!

Oooooh! I was hoping for the UFO theory too, but I have to say that the popularity of those lanterns leads me to think it may have been those - still, a fabulously spooky experience I can imagine non the less! Talking of strange goings on in the sky, last night I was peering out of my daughter's bedroom window looking for shooting stars (the meteor showers were at their most prolific last night apparently)...did you see any yourself? It was 2am when I looked and spotted about 4, then bed beckoned...!

    Sending love

  12. What an unusual and interesting sighting - I've no idea what they could have been - although the chinese lantern explanation sounds feasible. Your hibiscus is so pretty:)

  14. Simone, thanks for your message! Those booties are indeed very cute, if I do say so myself! I’m afraid I have no idea what those red dots could be, maybe space stations???
