Now, the above picture shows the cake at a slightly different angle. A very ugly monster of a cake! The fudge icing was so heavy that the side of the cake collapsed setting off a chocolaty avalanche!
It is not often that I have a baking disaster but thought you may like to see an example of 'when cakes go wrong'! I don't think I will be making this cake again especially as I have a huge bowl of washing up to contend with plus an icing sugar covered worktop! Have a lovely weekend. I am off to wash up and prettify the cake! x
You tempter! It looks absolutely delicious! I LOVE chocolate. Around here they say the cakes that fall apart taste the best... bet yours falls in that category.
ReplyDeleteNow... I have to go hunt some chocolate after seeing this!
You know Simone, theres a saying 'never judge a book by its cover'...? well there's a similar one regarding cakes: 'never judge a collapsed cake and call it a disaster til you've tasted it!'
ReplyDeleteIt looks scrumptious, if I were you I wouldn't care a jot that it collapsed and go attack it with a big spoon pronto!!
Love Julia x x x
It's not how it looks but how it tastes that counts!!!! You should see the amount of icing that falls off the fairy cakes when we make them... I just chisel it off the worktop (this is not a quick job heehee)before taking the pics!

I don't care what it looks like, I want some! It looks delicious x
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the cake will taste wonderful, after all it is what it tastes like not how it looks, but it does look splendid in the chocolatey cover.
ReplyDeleteLooks very tempting, Simone and I bet it tastes wonderful no matter what it's shape. I'm afraid I didn't get around to baking this Friday but will have a go next week:)
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't worry about the calories - they probably escaped when the side collapsed!!!! That's my version anyway, and I'm sticking to it!!!!:0)
ReplyDeleteLooks gorgeous by the way.
Oh my goodness, Simone - no matter what the shape, I'm sure that cake was delicious! Very tempting!
ReplyDelete..maybe you could change its name into "big Profiteroles"? It looks perfect to me!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend! xxx
I don't think there is anything wrong with a chocolate avalanche...it sounds like heaven to me. I think most of my cakes avalanche, will probably need to do some clever camera work when I present them on my blog. Is is week three already! My daughter was in charge of the cake(s) this week, it was also meant to be a chocolate fudge cake - but she made chocolate fudge topped muffins instead. Next week I hope to make one of my favourite cakes and plan to blog about that one :o)
ReplyDeleteHave had a funny old day, I began my first craft project in 8 months and it hasn't got off to a good start. At the moment am wondering weather the sore throat and runny nose I have are the start of a cold. hope it just turns out to be a tiny one as I have soooo much to do and don't want any ailments at the moment.
Seeing as You are normaly such a marvelous cake baker , I think it very brave of You to show us one You are less happy with. We all think it's splendid though :o)
