Penny Rug Project No.1

It was 2 years ago that I did a post on the wonderful 'Born to Quilt' edition of the Magic Patch magazine. (Was it really that long ago?)

The patterns and projects were created by Veronique Requena who very kindly sent me the materials and pattern to complete one of the projects in the magazine.

It has taken me almost 2 years to attempt the penny rug but two weeks ago I started it and today I finished it (apart from additional embellishments and backing fabric). I thoroughly enjoyed making this although at times I cursed the cutting out. It was all sewn by hand and I can't wait to start on another sewing project!

Edited: Just to let you know that the 'Penny Rug' isn't actually a rug but it is a large doiley sized table decoration/table mat. It is called a penny rug because of the 'pennies' that are sewn on the tabs surrounding the mat.

  5. Its lovely, I have to admit, I have never heard of 'Penny Rug' but then again I have always been a bit 'scared' of patchwork! It looks lovely and the fabrics are great together.

  9. Was that really 2 years ago!! It was that magazine that got me on to blogging! After I read all about Veronique, I googled her, but instead of finding her website (initially anyway) I came across Jo's Home Sweet Home blog, who had also discovered Veronique's talents .... needless to say, I was hooked - I'm happy to say!!

Did you know that Veronique is going to have a stall at this year's Festival of Quilts at the NEC? I'm very tempted to go being so close, but I'm thinking about the cost - I can hardly come out empty-handed now can I?!!!

Love the penny rug by the way - just like the original!
