Flower, Zentangle, Gizmo

I have been buying a lot of the traditional 'cheap 'n' cheerful' spring flowers recently but had my head turned by this beautiful exotic looking orchid.  I have never grown an orchid before but am assured that they are easy to grow from the instructions that came with it.  I should immerse it in water, for an hour, once a week and feed whilst in flower.  When the flowers are finished I am to cut down the stem and it may start flowering again.  The plant wasn't cheap at £10.00 but the flowers are supposed to last for four weeks.  We shall see!

This is my second attempt at a zentangle, doodled whilst the dinner was cooking in the oven.  It looks like a couple dancing to me, and quite ethnic in style.  The interesting thing is, that when you start to doodle you have no idea what the end result will be.  I see many more zentangles coming on but I won't bombard you with them all!

Here is Gizmo sitting among my craft materials. Whenever I put a sheet of paper down he just has to come and sit on it and try it out for size!

  1. What a beautiful orchid ... it's a lovely colour.
I've only had one orchid ... and sad to say it didn't last long. I wish you better luck with yours!

  2. My Mum is a wonderful grower of orchids and her secret to success is to only give them rainwater (at room temperature) I have to say, I've been using her advice for a while now and my orchids have never been better. And yes, do let the water drain out when you've stood them in it for a while.

  5. Your orchid is beautiful! :)
I don't know what it is about cat's having to sit on things. One came and sat on my little hand fork when I was gardening one day, couldn't have been very comfortable!
Gizmo is looking as handsome as ever!!

  7. Just found your blog today while pottering online for a while - such beautiful pictures. I was interested to see your stamping as I love to scrapbook (can't make cards anymore as I now have a business to sell them!) but I do love my scrapbooking and am trying to be more creative with it this year. 8. Aw, wish I had a fluffy Gizmo like you. Cats always take an interest in your crafts when you least want them too, don't they?

  9. Gizmo! Cats love to sit on paper - especially if you are using it. One of my cats is sitting at the side of my lap top watching my fingers on the keys as I type - I'm just waiting for the pounce!:)

  11. You will not be disappointed with your orchid, mine flowered for ages (more than 4 weeks). They are really easy to look after and if you cut it back it will flower again. It takes ages (months) to reflower so don't give up on it :-)

  14. I love this zentangle, too! It does look a bit like a dancing couple. And also an intricate alphabet letter. An A or an R.

Your orchid is lovely. I have one that I bought back in October and it is STILL blooming. Mine was an absolute bargain at $5 and although a few buds fell off soon after I brought it home, it's been amazing. Good luck with yours.

Gizmo looks like a sweetie, though it is funny how cats have to be on top of EVERYTHING you do. Any time I get out my fabric, Dovey is immediately on top of it.

  15. Beautiful orchid, wonderful zentangle and sweet Gizmo!! Glad to read your instructions about orchids. I have two that have stopped blooming, so I guess I'll cut them down. And yes, my cats always sit right down upon whatever I am working on. I wonder why?
