Cross-Stitch and Clutter Before the De-clutter

I completed the cross-stitch that I showed a few weeks back.  I just need to find an appropriate mount and frame for it now.
I have a nice new cross-stitch project to work on using linen instead of aida.

I am looking forward to using my lovely new skeins of thread and gold plated needles.  It will be such a treat to start on - but not yet.

Remember that I said I need to de-clutter?  Well I have purposely kept these photos dark because I am ashamed.  I am ashamed that I ever let things get to this stage.  This is the craft/computer room.  It is where I sit and read all your lovely blogs.  I have so much stuff hidden in piles and mountains of paper.  I can never find anything.
Here is another view of the room.  Now this room is bad enough but it is the tip of the iceberg.  I do not have the courage to show you the state of the other rooms yet but when they have been tidied I will show you some before and after photos.  I have a man coming tomorrow to collect a van load of 'clutter' for our local hospice charity.  Today I have sorted out two sock drawers.  I have a huge mountain to climb but I am sure that I will feel so much better when I can walk into a room and actually put my feet down without having to step on or over something.

  1. It's hard knwowing where to start sometimes, but just making a start is a very good thing.
If I lived closer I'd offer to come and help!

  5. With us the clutter is in cupboards and wardrobes that when you open doors everything falls out, or in the shed and the back of the garage. You have made a start and that always inspires you on to more, a little at a time and it will soon be done! I think the cross stitch is very pretty:)

  6. LOVE your beautiful cross stitch work Simone!.. As for clutter, I've said it before. I'm a "collector". (Pack rat is such an ugly way to look at it.) Garage/Yard Sale Season is just beginning around here, and I just brought my first NEW "collection" of items home with me this past Saturday! LOL! You can well imagine I'm constantly finding and looking for ways to utilize space, and to keep things looking organized and pretty around here! But everybody has to start somewhere. If even it's just a couple of sock drawers, it's a goal and an accomplishment well done for the day!... Have a great day, and give Gizmo a little pat on the head for me! ~tina

  9. Love the cross stitch, well done. I think you will feel better when you have had a good sort out. I'm like the other Rosie everything is piled into cupboards and wardrobes all out of sight. It's really good because out of sight and out of mind. Just don't open the doors! :)

  12. Hi Simone,
I dump all my clutter in the garage but somehow I still know it's there and it's long overdue for a clear out.
You have done a lovely job of the sampler, it doesn't seem to have taken you long at all.x

  14. My workroom looks like this at times and it drives me crazy. When I clean it, everything is sunshine and roses, but it quickly goes back to a messy state. As the saying goes, 'creative minds are seldom tidy!'

  17. Those photos make me feel at home!
Where I blog is similar I'm afraid, the room where everything gets dumped, boxes still unpacked from moving last summer - makes me laugh when I see those beautiful photos of immaculate desks when people post about "where i blog" - but I'm envious too at how organised they are!
    Good Luck!

  19. I find it difficult to be creative at the best of times, so what's best for me is to not have any clutter around me at all. I tend to stuff things in cupboards and drawers, and in our loft! Out of sight, out of mind kinda thing. I love the sampler feel to your cross-stitch Simone. x

  20. Clutter is such a tricky thing. It's often necessary for creating, but it can be so distracting sometimes, too. Cheers to you for tackling it. I know you'll feel such a sense of accomplishment when it's finished, and you'll have that lovely cross stitch waiting!

  21. I somehow missed this post - your cross stitch is lovely, and it will be wonderful to sit down and begin that gorgeous new chart when you feel ready. Clearing out is so hard, it's so difficult to know where to begin, but you are already doing it now so well done! Good luck with the next bit and I hope it all gets sorted out without too much trouble! I think all crafty people will understand the need to de-clutter!

  22. They say creative people never have clean desks so it sounds like you're in good company!

P.S. My desk gets buried constantly ... and has to be dug out.

    Feel better now? :-)
