I couldn't think of a finer way to mark my 300th post other than with the pomp and pageantry of this elaborately decorated coach. It is housed within the Museum of London.
As you can read above, it is still used each year to carry the new Mayor through the streets of the City.
As a child I used to go and watch the Lord Mayor's show and eagerly awaited the procession each year.
For Christmas I would receive a new coat and was allowed to wear it a month early on the day of the show.
I have fond memories of the coach. In my new coat and knee high socks I would cheer and wave as the coach rolled by.
That's a lovely memory to share with us and what a beautiful coach.Congratulations on your 300 post.x
ReplyDeleteWhat a great memory to have actually seen the coach in use! I see it is still used now!It is quite splendid. Congratulations on 300 posts:)

ReplyDeleteWhat a great memory for you!
ReplyDeleteMy memory has gone awry, it was the Lord Mayors coach at the London Museum but it was still standing in a puddle of rain water though, that I do remember!:-0

Hi Simone,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations and on your 300th post!
It is fascinating to see the detail of the coach close up and understand what it all represents. Thank you for sharing your wonderful childhood memories too. You are so lucky to be able to see things like this whenever you want to. xx
Congrats on reaching your 300th post! I do enjoy reading your lovely blog!
ReplyDeleteI think as a child I would have had my eye on the horses more than the coach. 6 horses all moving together, brushed and gleaming. I can just imagine it... The coach is extraordinary and how fortunate that it's still taken out for people to see 250 years later. Priceless.
ReplyDeleteHope things are settling down in your corner of the world, Simone. You've been greatly on my mind.
Hurrah!
