Willow Weaving

One of the advantages from volunteering at the vineyard is that I get the opportunity to do other things too.  Today I took part in a full day willow weaving workshop. The location was through the gate (above)

 and along a woodland walk.

Above are some of the items that were made by our tutor Tom Hare.  Tom Hare is responsible for making the fantastic willow sculptures on display at Kew gardens.

With Tom's expert tuition I made the leaf shaped plant poke above............

 .............a snail plant poke.................

 ......a dragonfly..................

.............and a sweet pea support.  Not a bad day's work!  I wonder what other opportunities will come my way as a result of volunteering?

  2. The sweet pea support is just great! ..I wonder if we had planted one of those our sweet pea would have done better than some yellow dried leaves...

  5. You've made some lovely things and it sounds like a very pleasant way to pass a day. I think my favourite is the dragonfly. Such pretty objects to have in a garden.

  6. What a lovely way to spend a day ... with fantastic results. I have a very similar sweet pea support which cost far too much at the local garden centre!
    Love the dragonfly too!

  10. What a wonderful thing to do, Simone! I really love willow woven things in the garden, they look so beautiful, both natural and designed at the same time! Willow sculptures look great tucked between the plants, and the structures for climbing plants really enhance the gardens.
    Have a lovely week.

  16. how wonderful and strange as I have just been looking for some little willow or wicker baskets for the kiddies at pre-school to take to the allotment and collect goodies in and then read this :-) If only I could make some for them - a wonderful art form.
