Mouse

By the time I reached it nothing more could be done.  Gizmo, bored of his latest quest, turned his back on the mouse and went off to pastures new.  I picked up the tiny creature who was still warm and supple and spoke soothing words as it slowly slipped away.

I shall hide mouse deep in the undergrowth and Mother Nature will take it back to the earth.

* Note: the photo is magnified.  The mouse was so tiny it hardly filled the palm of my hand.

  1. Poor little creature. As much as I love cats it's this aspect of their lives I hate. We get so many casualties here, sometimes I manage to rescue the little animal and that does make me feel good but more often than not I end up being cross with the cat. I know it's their nature and they can't help how they're programmed but I wish they wouldn't.

  2. Poor little mouse! It doesn't look injured at all. Thankfully our two are too old to catch them anymore and when they did we usually managed to catch them and put them back over the hedge but sometimes there would be a casualty:)

  3. Gizmo was probably going to bring the mouse as a gift for you!

  4. This is why I don't have a cat, though lord knows I need one. More than one!
Be careful picking them up Simone, mice carry a lot of disease. Jx

  5. I'm afraid I pick them up by the tip of the tail and lob them into the shrubbery. Nature, red in tooth and claw. I stopped being sentimental about mice when the little buggers gnawed through the foam innards of a car seat in the garage.

  7. We don't have a cat, but sometimes you think we do, because the neighbours cats seem to like us, and leave us the little gifts!

  8. The poor little thing, I am glad that you held this tiny creature.
We just had a horrible fire in our county and four children died.
I know that death is always part of life and we must accept it and move on, but children dying...that is very hard indeed.
