Step Away From the Blog..................

Each day I look at my blog. Not once. Not twice, but multiple times throughout the day just in case somebody has left a comment.  It is getting quite exhausting and habitual and slightly OCD.  I do this in the hope that I find a nugget of inspiration, information or a lead to something.......................and I don't even know what that 'something' is that I am looking for.  I also spend a fair chunk of time looking and commenting on other people's blogs.  Today I have excelled myself in having such a blogfest and now I sit hunched with aching shoulders and blurry eyes.  Something has to give.

As well as the blog I constantly check my twitter and g mail accounts.  I really need to break out of this habit as it is having a destructive effect on me and taking away precious time that I could be doing something constructive.

I really need to cut down on time spent at the computer and with this in mind I am going to step away from the blog.  Not for long.  Hopefully.  Just a breather.

  1. The children's television programme popped into my head after reading this post. Do you remember it? "Why Don't You Just Switch Off Your Television Set And Go Out And Do Something Less Boring Instead?". I know the feeling about checking blog, facebook, and anything else that comes to mind. I now only work on the computer early morning till about 9.30am-ish, and look again about 9pm-ish that way I don't stay up too late looking. I am actually happy when I'm at my dad's or out for the day, its only because the computer isn't there and I don't really need it or want it, but because I am at home and the computer is there I look. I have a posh phone with all the bells and whistles, I can actually say honestly I do not have my emails/computer connected to it or take photos on it. I just use it as a phone!

Don't be away too long Simone, see you when you get back

  2. I wonder if you can get your blog to email you when there are new comments? That way you don't have to keep looking, but you don't miss them. Just a thought.

  3. You're not on your own Simone! I often surmise that I would achieve more if I didn't spend so much time on this machine:0) xx

  6. I must admit that I enjoyed being away from home with just the occasional opportunity to check the internet, it was so relaxing. I know what you mean about checking things on the computer instead of getting on with other things, thank goodness I don't have one of those 'whizzy' phones that access the web. I know some people who follow mindfulness have a techno free day every week and that seems like a good idea. I hope you have a good blogging break Simone and enjoy doing some art or craft instead and hopefully the weather will get warm enough to get out into the garden too. Take carexx

  8. Simone, I began my blog with the purpose of "showing" Jerome my life "among the chickens" while he was still living in the city. Now that we share this life daily I find sallymomsprouts has morphed into a journal for ME. (I am useless at journaling on paper with anything that resembles regularity.) I post my blog entries as if I were speaking to friends but understand that this is not a conversation as much as a window on my world. I check Linden Grove daily despite how often I comment. With each viewing I send a mental hug of good wishes your way. I treasure our digital relationship and find it has led to a friendship most real to me. All my best.
