Cosmos

The plant above is a Cosmos.  Hues of bright pink and deep crimson.  I rather like the black and white photo I took of it.  The shapes are more clearly defined and I can pick out various textures.

Still not much to say on here.  Nothing I can share other than to say that my favourite seasons are the spring and the autumn.

  2. It would be a useful photo for doing a water colour for experimenting with the tonal shades and shapes. Often using a colour photo is distracting. Lovely that you are checking in once in a while even though you have nothing much to share. Life can feel a bit like that at times but I always look forward to seeing Linden Grove pop up in my 'reader' no matter how little or often you post. Hope you will at least enjoy the summer flowers even if you do not like the season - Autumn is never very far away when we get to mid July. This is my favourite month probably because it contains my birthday although the thought of yet another year older fills me with a kind of dread that I never used to have! Take care xx

    1. Hi Vivian. Yes I thought that it would be good to use the photo as a reference for painting. I could share lots on here but a lot of what I am feeling right now is negative so best kept to myself! I am happy to know that you look forward to Linden Grove pop up in your reader - at least I bring joy to someone! Enjoy your Birthday month. x

    2. I have followed your blog for so long now Simone (I used to sneakily read it at work long ago before I started blogging myself) I would feel I had an empty space in my life if I did not hear from you. Often I am just about to send an email to see if you are OK when you surface again! take care now x

  3. It is a lovely photo and being black and white it does add depth and texture to the photo. Autumn isn't so very far away now:)

    1. Hi Rosie. I don't want to wish my life away but every year I don't have a holiday or go to the beach. The summer is so full of expectations which never come true for me. I like clear crisp and cool days no matter the season! x

  5. We're moving into an extended hot spell here. Our 100+ year old farm house is not air conditioned and is impossible to cool down at night when the outside temperature and humidity are high. I joke that it's so humid my envelopes seal themselves. Actually some do! As uncomfortable as it is inside, I find it worse to be out. Too many bugs for one thing! But chickens need tending and the edible gardens need attention. And it would be such a shame to miss seeing those lovelies blooming their hearts out for us right now.
I love your black and white photo. It's a great way to audition fabrics for quilts, to use a digital camera to look at the depth of tones. And you are so right. Color can distract you from the unique details of what you're looking at and taking it away helps you to really see.
Don't be too down on yourself for your heaviness of spirit right now. You are in good company.
Choose one small thing to lift your mood today. Perhaps look for the waxing moon tonight and know I'll be looking at it too and thanking the "cosmos" for you. So grateful for this crazy thing called technology that gives us the possibility of connection. Thank you for the photo. Just found this on an online dictionary:

    cos·mos
    noun
the universe seen as a well-ordered whole.
"he sat staring deep into the void, reminding himself of his place in the cosmos"
    a system of thought.
    plural noun: cosmoses
    happy day to you!

    1. Thank you Sharon. I often look at the moon. It's late now but tomorrow I will choose one small thing to lift my mood. I am glad for our connection Sharon. Tonight I will imagine that I am at your farmhouse looking up at a clear starry sky. :)

  6. In France we often notice large swathes of roadsides covered in Cosmos in many and varied colours - always so uplifting.
