An Update at Mutant Trees

I have just updated my other blog at Mutant Trees. With regards to my painting I sometimes feel that I am going one step forward, two steps backwards but I guess that is part of the learning process. I am always looking towards other artists for inspiration and direction. I find that my tastes have changed quite dramatically over the years and I am now appreciating the style of primative art work a lot more. What artists from the past or present do you find inspirational and why?

  1. That's lovely Simone! It would go so well with a display of blue and white china!
    Have a happy weekend ;-)

  2. I don't know where to start on artists that inspire me, I'd be here all day. I love so many forms of art and like you the primative style really appeals to me.
Just off the top of my head Natalie Goldberg springs to mind, probably because I have just been reading her book 'Living with Colour'.
I am going to see what you have been up to over at Mutant Trees now

  3. One step forward, two steps back...yes, I can relate to that myself!! But you're right, its all part of the learning process and thats a good thing, as long as we're open to learning we're always going to grow.

My favourite artists are numerous, but Im very drawn to Alfred Wallis who was a Cornish painter - and I also love the work of Lowry, Van Gogh, Mackenzie Thorpe, Shirley Trevena, Elda Abramson...to name but a few and each inspire me in different ways - some its the use of colour, others its how they choose to represent a subject with a medium...I could natter about this with you for ages but Im hogging the comments page :)

    Keep up the great work!!!
    Love Julia xxx

  4. Hi Simone I have to agree with the above comment.
I love your picture it looks all soft and very touchable...although I am sure you would not want anyone to touch it!
