A couple of months back I told my family that each Friday I would bake them a cake of their choice. I did this for two reasons: 1. To have an element of routine to my somewhat unstructured days. 2. To have something to look forward to at the end of the working week.
I have kept this up for most of the time except for the Christmas period when we had cake overload.
Anyway I think they may have forgotten my promise to them so the cake above will be a pleasant surprise when they get home today.
From now on I have designated each Friday to be a bake a cake day. Want to join in? No membership required! Just bake a cake on a Friday and post up a picture and/or share the recipe.
The above cake is a simple Victoria sponge sandwich cake with strawberry jam (left the butter cream out on this occasion) and the recipe can be found on my first ever post if you want to make it.
Mmmmm that looks so yummy.
ReplyDeleteWhat a yummy treat to have at the end of a tiring working week!
ReplyDeleteThis is surely the best NY resolution seen in Blogland! ;-)
Hats off to you Simone!
That looks gorgeous Simone, unlike my disaster cake which tastes great and looks awful! x
ReplyDeleteYum! I'm missing out on baking at the moment for myself due to diet! Never mind though, this week I have baked with my niece and nephew and for my Dad!
ReplyDeleteThat look delicious!
ReplyDeleteI am TRYING to cut back on the goodies, but I will no doubt be joining you in baking on the odd occasion, it would be rude to refuse!

That looks lovely may I have some? May I join you the only thing is I have been doing the same on a Sunday for Sunday treat. It all started with us when our boys when younger, they went to stay at grand-parents house and nanny happened to mention "High Tea" when we arrived to pick them up we were informed that we were going to have High Tea, then one little voice piped up - what is high tea.....? Ever since then on a Sunday I make either cakes or biscuits and still do even though it is just Alex and I now!
ReplyDeleteLooks scrumptious!! Great minds think alike, as a couple of days ago I was moved to make a Victoria sponge too, albeit with buttercream as the Little One demands it - however my mixture was a bit wrong and I ended up with so much we practically needed scaffolding to navigate our way to eating it!!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea by the way, bake a cake friday!
Love Julia
Great mind think alike! ;-)
ReplyDeleteLast week I decided that Fridays would be my baking day...and today I baked a cake..a Victoria Sponge Cake. (forgot to take a pic though and now it's half eaten!)
Have a lovely weekend!
;-)
What a great idea. I shouldn't be eating cake at the moment but am loving my new cupcake books. Can't promise to join in every Friday but I'll manage it sometimes.

I'm hopeless at making cakes. Yours looks delicious.x
ReplyDeleteThat looks like one tasty cake! Don't think I should engage in this weekly baking though, my hips are wide enough as it is!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea Simone. Friday's might be tricky as I work on my commissions that day but I'll try! 'Cake Friday'. A bit like 'bench Monday'!
ReplyDeleteTo bake more cakes, and be more adventurous with my cooking, was one of my thoughts for change in 2010. x
