The Moon and Me

The teeny tiny crescent shaped moon in the photo above is a waxing moon.  Today and until this Friday the moon is waning and the crescent will be the other way around.  On Friday we will have a new moon.  For those not familiar with the moons cycle; from the full moon to the new moon the moon is waning, and from the new moon to the full moon the moon is waxing.  I am new to all this and just recently became aware of how heavily I am influenced by the moon.

I have been tired and lethargic over the past week and feel this could be due to the waning moon.  It is a time for decreased activity and increased rest.  I have read that the waning moon is a time to send away negative things such as relationships or financial worries and to clear out closets and suchlike and to start a cleansing diet.

In addition to the waxing, full, waning and new moon, the moon is either ascending or descending.  All these different factors are considered when deciding the optimum time to plant seeds, mow lawns, water and feed plants etc.

Armed with my new information about the moon I am going to try to live more closely to it.  I will use the waning moon as a time for clearing things away from my life and the waxing moon to bring things into my life.

Are you influenced by the moon?

  1. I've not noticed that I am influenced by the moon but I may be, in fact we all may be. That is all very interesting Simone, I'll be interested to see how you get on. The moon has an effect on tides, it may have an effect on many other things!

  2. When it became apparent that I was finally finished with my "monthlies," I realized just how much I missed the cycle of them in my day to day life. Always regular there was a definitive rhythm in my system that I now lacked. It was about that time I had begun to meditate and it was then I realized being a child of the earth there were so many other cycles (days, seasons, plants, animals) to be aware of. I took the moon's cycle for my own. This morning an hour before a hint of dawn, the waning crescent moon was riding the sky on Venus' shoulder. Despite my intentions of creeping out from beneath my blankets to look for them I fell back to sleep and it was my sweet companion Dovey who woke me to look for them. I told her we'd look and she reminded me. Cats, how marvelous they are. And I'm glad that while I'm looking for the moon, you are too, Simone, across the vastness, far but now nearer.

  4. This is very interesting Simone. Is that why I have been feeling tired and lethargic ? I am going to find out more about it. Thanks xx

  5. Oh I just love the moon and could work by it much happier than by sunlight sometimes, if it is something spiritual I want to do! When I was in Germany I would look at the moon and be reminded that even though I was miles from home, the moon was still the same, and it gave me comfort! I also, generally, go a bit "crazy" at the time of the full moon... hard to sleep, bit hormonal... Tim calls it my "moon madness".

  6. Hi, love this blog on the moon.
I am aware of how the moon affects us all, I studied astrology for a while and it has a profound influence on all of us.
When we had an allotment we used to garden by the moon, there are some good books that tell you when its the best time to plant etc. it works......

  8. I do think we are affected by the moon, some people more than others. It affects so many things in our world it makes sense that it would have an influence on people too. Garden lore has all kinds of tips for planting linked to the phases of the moon. I look forward to hearing how you get on.
Have a lovely week. Helen x

  12. I know that when I taught school, the children were quite affected by the moon - a full moon guaranteed a very lively group!!
I never thought of applying the moon's cycles to my own behavior and feelings. I must pay more attention to this and read up on it!

  13. I've never thought I was influenced by it but maybe I am without realising it - maybe we all are! Certainly Early Man was much influenced by the sun and moon and I had heard about Biodynamics and farmer's planting according to the stages of the moon. It is all fascinating stuff - I look forward to more of your posts about your experiences with this:)

  14. Well, it would certainly explain my lack of interest in anything much at the moment - will take a closer look at the moon in future!

  15. I've never thought of the moon cycles like that before, though I agree with Judy that the full moon does seem to affect people. When I was working at the library the wackiest things would always happen when there was a full moon, and I've talked with police officers who said that's the time when they'd see the craziest stuff happening.

I'm not sure if I'm influenced by the moon, but I certainly am by the sun. Sunny days always make me feel better.

When I was a girl, I used to sleep with mu curtains open so I could watch the moon!!
It has to be pitch black for me now!
