Recycled Fabric Brooches

I have been looking for some quick and easy fund raising ideas for the community vineyard where I volunteer.  I saw some fabric brooches in 'Homemade Gifts Vintage Style' and thought I would try something similar.

I used a selection of new and recycled fabrics.  I recycled a pair of denim jeans and an old pair of Cath Kidston pyjama bottoms!  To keep the costs down I will probably just sew safety pins to the back rather than buy brooch pins.

They have a rustic, homespun look about them which I hope will appeal to the market I have tailored them to.  I think they would look great attached to a denim jacket or spring coat to add a splash of colour on a gloomy day.

I now have to think about ways in which they could be displayed once I have made several dozen more!  I am thinking of a shallow willow basket where they will be displayed loose rather than in packaging.  What do you think?  Any ideas?

  1. I think they are fabulous. I saw something on Pinterest the other day where ribbon was stretched over an empty photo frame and brooch and hairslides where clipped to the strips. Does that make sense? If not I'll try and send you a link.

  2. They look great! Perhaps you could display them with some kind of leaves either fabric or real in the basket? But just as they are would be good too of course and by not putting them on cards you will keep the cost down although if you pinned them to recycled car of some sort it might make them worth slightly more for your project? I am sure whatever you do they will sell well. How's the necklace going or is that on hold whilst you are in production of these lovely brooches?

  3. They are gorgeous, Simone! I think displaying them in a shallow basket is a lovely idea, especially a white one which would really show them off. Good luck with your fund raising. Have a happy week.

  4. Sweet Simone!
Card is fairly cheap for displaying them. I used a 15p brown folder for mine. I say you should print out your name on cardlets, homespun creations look great with a little branding.

  6. These are lovely. You could carry on the recyling theme by just mounting them on colourful pieces of card cut out from packaging or old greetings cards.

  8. They are pretty Simone. I like the idea of displaying them on pieces of card, it would, I think, give them a more classy air. Perhaps you could just cut an arrow shape in the card and slip the pin over it?

  9. The basket idea sounds good, I also agree with Clare though in that putting your name on them is also a good idea!
They are very pretty, I think they'll be very popular. :)

  13. Simone,
They are beautiful and sure to raise lots of money. I agree they would look lovely in a shallow basket and of course modelled by you and/or whoever else is selling them!xx

  14. Your broaches are very pretty. They would look lovely displayed on old card stock with a little doodle and your name. I'm sure they will sell well. Best wishes, Tammy

  15. Hi there. I make mine and found they looked great pegged onto twine stretched across an old frame. I Used those tiny pegs you can get in craft shops and also make layered leaves now to go with them. Glad the book inspired. Best regards. Sarah Moore
