The Golden Rule of Blogging

I have read so many times that the number one 'rule' in blogging is never to blog if you are angry, miserable or upset.  Well, if I stuck to that imposition I would only have written a third of my posts!  I have had many things rile me this summer from rude bus drivers to ignorant farm managers, costly roof repairs to major works ahead on the house, a disappointing summer border that consisted mainly of leggy yellow flowers and a wildflower meadow that did not live up to its promise.  I have not been to the seaside again this year - will it live up to expectations when I do eventually visit?  Probably not!!!

Anyway, just to show that I am not always dour and pessimistic, I thought I would share a rare picture my son took of me while having a good old laugh.  It does happen, not that often, but it does.

  7. Lovely photo. Good to remember happy times. My mum used to have a little picture in her kitchen with the motto "count your blessings not your worries", something I need to remember too!

  8. I turn to your blog for many reasons, Simone. I always appreciate your honesty and depth. Many bloggers take great care to "crop" content and we readers can't "read" the blogger at all. Your photography is spectacular and pushes me to do a better job. Your gardens, cooking, art all remind me to get a move on with my own, realizing that in doing I am living my life. Real life, warts and all as they say.
I am happy you decided to post your photo. I'm smiling back at you, my friend.

  11. Beautiful photo, Simone! I know I haven't been visiting blogs very much this summer. Too busy outside and then traveling and getting ready for an art fair, but I haven't abandoned my blogger friends!

I think that the number one rule of blogging is to be authentic. Otherwise, what is the point, really? Your blog is honest and thoughtful and totally YOU. No one else could write it and that is the reason for blogging in the first place!

Glad to see you happy and I hope that those laughs and good feelings linger for quite a while.

  12. Lovely photo of you. Must admit that I try always to be positive when I'm blogging but I also try to be positive in real life too. I've always been a glass half full rather than half empty sort of person:)

  14. Hi Simone! I'm back from holidays and doing some catching up! As far as I have seen so far, your latest postings/mood crash with this wonderful smile of yours! I really hope you'll feel more optimistic soon. As far as the golden rule, I wouldn't care a bit!I think that letting your feelings show in your postings is your trademark!
    Beautiful photo!!!!!!!
