Hard Frost

We have not had any snow where I am in the South East but at midday we still have a hard frost.  It is still, bitterly cold and sunny.  I am glad to have a cold spell in the winter months - my reasoning is that it gives the earth a chance to sleep and reawaken in the spring.  I also believe that it kills off any germs or bacteria that may be lurking!

I am trying to stay a step ahead this year and preparing for events before they arise as much as I can.  I am much too last minute about many things.  I am getting my health sorted out  this month and also feel the urge to put an emergency box together with groceries and 'essentials' such as candles, matches, soap.  I don't know why I feel the need to do this but I don't think it would do harm to have something like this in place.  If there were to be a catastrophic event where I was unable to leave the house at least I would have some supplies to tide me over.

I am thinking of logging my achievements each month at the end of the month here on the blog.  That way I can look back and see what I have done over the past year.  It may be something as small as the completion of reading a book, learning a new skill or as big as decluttering a room.  I think that doing this may spur me on to get things accomplished so I can say 'I did that'!

  1. I think that's a very good idea Simone, it's a bit like crossing things off a list.......very satisfying!!!

  2. We had snow at the weekend and it's still with us. It was very cold last night and there was really bad black ice this morning. I think it would be a good idea to have some essentials in case something happens. Just make sure that is you have food in there that is doesn't go out of date!

  3. My Mum's generation used to stockpile tins of food, bars of soap and candles maybe because they'd lived through the war years and rationing. I also remember the electricity cuts and shortages in the early 70s - we always keep plenty of candles and matches plus a couple of torches handy as when we first moved here we had quite a few power cuts. It is a good idea to keep plenty of basics so you can feed yourself for a few days if necessary. We have slushy snow here at the moment:)

  4. Lovely frosty picture, it has been cold here too but no snow yet. Your plans all sound very positive, Simone, and it's good to have goals ahead to get motivated by, especially in January.
    Keep cosy!

  6. Sometimes when we look back it's amazing to see all that we have accomplished. In the moment it's easy to forget.

Wishing you a very productive year!

  7. Yes, I think we need a good cleansing frost every now and then in winter - even though I feel so bad for the birds and animals trying to survive the cold, especially at night. And yes, a log of achievements sounds good. Saw this project and thought it would be perfect for your log: http://justsomethingimade.com/2014/10/how-to-make-a-vintage-book-planner/

I sort of do the same thing but using photos of things I've made and done. Then I wait for a good offer on Vistaprint or Photobox at the new year and get a yearbook printed. Just received my 2014 book and am delighted with it.
