Teacup Garden - Savor Summer Project

Making a teacup garden is a quick, fun and satisfying project which uses very few materials.  Summer is an ideal time to undertake such a project as garden centres have a wide range of plants to choose from.  The succulents I used were taken from bigger plants that I had in the garden.  They will root and spread quickly in the summer months.  Depending on the types of plants you choose will determine whether or not you will need to drill a drainage hole in the cup.  I didn't want to drill my cup as it was far too nice for that.  Prior to being a 'garden' it held a candle.  I don't know if it was ever used for its original purpose of holding tea!

Ingredients:
1 cup and saucer
Handful of gravel
Handful of multi purpose compost
Tiny succulent plants
( I used Sedum Little Missy, Sempervivum and Sedum Cauticola Lidakense
Decorative stones
Shells, tiny ornaments etc;
Spray water bottle

Once you have all your ingredients to hand, find a nice spot outside to assemble your mini garden.

Method:
 Add gravel to cup
Top up with compost.
Add plants
Add shells and decorative gravel
Water sparingly

Maintenance:
Water sparingly in dry conditions
Give an occasional spray with water bottle

  9. Oh how sweet! Now I think everyone can cope with a garden in a cup. Don't you think a row on a windowsill would look perfectly summery!
