February Fox

Just after a flurry of snow that evaporated before it could settle, I saw 'something' curled up outside on the grass.

Well hello fox!  I hope your thick coat is keeping you warm this cold day.

 It gave a cheeky smile...............

............ before making a hasty retreat towards the end of the garden.

*Thanks to all the responses on my last post.  It has given me clarification on some questions I had asked myself.

  1. He looks very healthy with a nice coat. I love the foxes and they have such lovely faces.
We have them come here every night as I put out food for them. At the moment they are taking away big mouthfuls so I am guessing that they are feeding the vixen or babies in the den.

    1. He/She does look healthy Briony. They don't usually look that good around here but I reckon it's a young one that hasn't been through the ravages of time! x

  2. What a lovely, healthy fox, Simone. We don't see our foxy visitors during the day but know they visit as they eat all the food we put out for them and we have caught them on the wildlife camera a few times but it has been too wet and windy to put it out over the last week or so. The fox looks very relaxed in your garden:)

    1. The foxes are out anytime of day or night Rosie. They really are quite tame. :)

    1. I was surprised that he didn't run off straight away Vivienne! I wasn't too close as I was inside the house using the zoom on my camera.

  4. I love these pictures! He is a lovely fox and does indeed look healthy. Your grass is so green! It is wonderful to see green grass as everything is still brown and winter worn around here.

    1. Hi Bonnie! The grass is so green because we have had weeks of rain! It could really do with a cut now but the ground is too water logged.

  6. Beautiful creatures - we have one at the cottage in the woodland and see it occasionally sneaking up on the rabbits. I never know whether I want him to catch one as yes it is a meal for him but not a pleasant way to go for the rabbit - but such is nature. x

    1. I am not a fan of foxes - beautiful as they may be - but I would never cause them harm. When in broad daylight a fox took a bite out of my pet hen Peppercorn I could never feel the same way about them again. I think that urban foxes are very different to the ones in the countryside and almost reliant on people feeding them or eating from discarded takeaway containers. x
