My son's home for Christmas. When I heard the wheels of the suitcase roll up the drive it was as though all my Christmas wishes came at once. He is my inspiration and a pure joy to be around. We share the same sense of humour and before long I was laughing until I could hardly breathe!

Christmas Humour
At times I take myself far too seriously. Does it really matter if I don't have a new toilet pedestal rug by Christmas or a brand new outfit to wear or a stack of presents piled to the ceiling ready for giving? Of course not!!!
Each year I put myself under so much (unnecessary) pressure to live up to the imaginary expectations of others as I expect many of you reading this do. Now the thing is my husband and son love Christmas. Every December we have to retrieve at least 10 black bin liners down from the loft - and that is just the bags that contain the tree! The tree is an ex-display model and each layer of branches have to be assembled individually. The branches are even colour coded as there are so many!!! Anyway, I leave them to put up the humongous tree and faff about with the 3 sets of 100's of lights entwined around it.
In stark contrast to this is my tree which is just a couple of feet high. I put this one up all by myself. It sits with me in the dining room and takes all of 10 minutes to assemble and decorate. Adorned with red and gold baubles and a set of battery operated lights, a dull corner is transformed. Just so I retain a sense of humour and perspective over the holiday period I put my smiling nude angel on the top complete with a golden bird. This little tree is funny and humble. I hope I can take some of those qualities and apply it to myself over this festive season.
Talking of funny (and I mean funny peculiar and not funny ha ha now) in this unseasonably warm December we are having - today I spotted a bee in the garden collecting nectar from a flowering heather plant! Everything seems so topsy turvy. I guess we shouldn't be surprised if we see snow in the Summer time!

Christmas Procrastination
There is much to be done. Presents to buy and wrap. Food plans to be written and recipes rehearsed. Christmas attire to be chosen and dusted down from inside the depths of the wardrobe. It would be a great help if Christmas happened every two years and not annually!
So whilst my to-do list grows I am shoving all my worries under the carpet and thinking about all the things I want to make and do next year (yes I am procrastinating.) I have sent off for four metres of muslin (cheesecloth) and I plan to make herbal sleep bags/pillows (such was the influence of 'The Apothecary's Daughter' in the previous post.) I will be seeking out all kinds of sleep inducing herbs and pretty cotton fabrics to house the pillows. My house will be the sweet scented haven that I have always wanted it to be and I will ignore the fact that is falling down in places.
So many more projects to do. Herbs to grow, pictures to paint, things to sew.........
Christmas procrastination. Why not put off today that which can be done tomorrow? Gulp! Is it true there is only 6 more days to go?
.............and as if by magic it will all come together on the day.

Natures Christmas Tree
The neighbourhood has been slow in putting up Christmas decorations this year. Walking back from the shops with my son after dark we were on the look out for houses that displayed Christmas trees. We saw many splendid examples but none so striking as the one made by nature. Silhouetted against the lamplight in the thick mist and fog and hanging with moisture droplets it was a most amazing sight. Unfortunately my point and shoot camera could not capture the beauty that we witnessed. I doubt I will ever see anything like it again. It was truly stunning.
