Garden Early July 2020

There is good and bad things happening in the garden.  Let's focus on the good.

 The sunflowers are bursting open!

The seeds will be a welcome feast for the birds come the autumn.

They look interesting at every stage of their development.

The night scented stocks fill the evening air with delicate fragrance.

I expect many people have lawns like this right now.  It is a shame to cut the grass when so much of it is full of food for the bees and other insects.  Some days this clover is smothered with all different types of bee.

My beautiful Desdemona rose is coming to and end for now.  Hopefully she will produce more buds.  Her fragrance has been intoxicating.  The most recent addition to my garden.  I hope she will be with me for many years.

  1. I love the fact that you are leaving the clover for the bees, I haven't seen that many bees this year so far.
My little garden has been well and truly battered by the wind, the climbing rose petals are everywhere and its still blowing a gale today.
I love that orange sunflower, haven't seen one before.

    1. Hi Briony! I have loads of bees in my garden. Sometimes the hum of them is so loud it sounds like traffic on the M25! Your garden is beautiful - I would have thought it protected by its walls. The sunflower seeds were free on a gardening magazine from last year. x

  2. Your photos are beautiful! I especially love seeing the various stages of the sunflower. I've never seen an orange sunflower before and I love it! The Desdemona rose is so delicate and pretty. It reminds me of a Cottage rose. Enjoy that beautiful garden!

    1. Hello Bonnie! The flowers are really striking but look autumnal to me! The Desdemona rose is a David Austin rose and named after a Shakespearean character. It is a shrub rose that starts off the palest of pink and opens to white. :)

  3. We have buttercups and daisies in our lawn and I like it to be left a little longer than most peoples so we don't often cut ours weekly in the summer months and when we do we leave the blades high.
    Love the rose and sunflowers.x

  4. Beautiful!! Your sunflowers are amazing, I really struggle with my sunflowers due to pesky slugs and snails, I wish someone would develop sunflowers that they don't like the taste of!!

    1. Thanks Julia! The sunflowers are called Velvet Queen. They are supposed to be shades from deep velvet red to copper. They are great for beginners to grow! x

  8. So lovely, Simone! I do love sunflowers. They are so joyful and that they provide food for bees and then birds is even better.

Your rose is beautiful. David Austin's roses smell wonderful and have such variety in their fragrances.

I hope you and your garden have a great week!

    1. Thanks Anne! The weather has been windy and rubbish so I have been doing some art indoors instead! I can see me being a collector of the David Austin roses. I hope you and your garden (and all that's in it) have a great week too! :)
